ELEKTRON MACHINEDRUM (Mk1)

Machinedrum is an advanced 16 voice digital drummachine/sequencer which is manufactured by the small Swedish company Elektron. Machinedrum employs various methods of synthesis to create drum and percussion sounds. The included step sequencer give the user an unique device for electronic sounds and rythms. A newer version (Mk2) of the machinedrum makes it possible to load user samples into a (very) small internal flash memory for treatment in the synth engine. The machinedrum's build quality does not really match the high price and the red backlight can make the LCD hard to read.

This device can produce a wide range of electronic percussive noises and is able to successfully emulate the Roland analog x0x drummachines. It is however, not always easy to create the sounds you really want as the amount of parameters are limited. The included 'acoustic' drum sets are also quite boring. The strenghts are new and unheard of electronic sounds. The included effects are ok but rather limited.

+ Good sound quality and sufficient effects
+ Advanced MIDI implementation

- Difficult to create the sounds you really want
- External "wallwart" power module
- Build quality
- High price
