ROLAND JUNO-60

Polyphonic six voice programmable synthesizer manufactured by Roland 1982 to 1983. Each voice have 1DCO, 1VCF, 1VCA, 1LFO, 1ENV and a (noisy) chorus device. Min first synthesizer was a Roland Juno-6. I sold the "6" after a year or so and bought a Juno-60 which offer 56 patch memories. The Juno-60 offers a similar sound as the synth superstar Jupiter-8 at a fraction of the cost. My Juno has been modified with an internal Kenton MIDI interface. A MIDI -> DCB unit is also known to exist.

The Juno-60 has a wonderful fat sound which is difficult to recreate on other synthesizers. The basses are great despite having just one oscillator (and a sub) and the pwm sounds are among the best you can get. The arpeggiator is rather limited but fun to use and the onboard chorus really fattens up the sound at the expense of the noise level. I prefer the "60" to the better known and technically more advanced midi equipped Juno-106 because of the "punchier" and smoother sound. A great analog synth. Buy one :)

Advantages

+ Great sounds
+ Easy to use
+ Stable oscillators (DCO)
+ Reasonable second hand prices

Disadvantages

- Internal connections can be corroded
- Only one envelope per voice
- Noisy chorus effect
- No factory midi interface
