ALESIS ANDROMEDA A6

16 voice multitimbral real analog synthesizer released 2001. Each voice have 2VCO, 2VCF, 3LFO, 3ENV and much more. I bought this instrument from a music instrument dealer and I later had some regrets because of the high price. The Andromeda is a fine and professional instrument but unfortunately it isn't as easy to use as say, for example, Oberheims old OB series. Alesis has not cared to fix some very easily spotted bugs in the software which is even more annoying when you consider the premium price asked for this instrument. The plastic endcaps surely holds the (already substantial) weight down but looks cheap and are prone to damage. The keyboard is a normal mono aftertouch synth design.

This instruments greatest sounds are "oberheimish" strings and pads which can be very lush and beautiful. The A6 also excels in sound effects. The bass end of the A6 can be very imposing but it is hard to obtain those snappy synthbasses we all love. The global effects are usable but not fantastic.

Advantages

+ A modern real analog synthesizer
+ Nice keyboard with velocity and aftertouch
+ Great sounds (much better than most VA:s)
+ Built in and good sounding effects

Disadvantages

- Monotimbral (global) effects
- Complicated and "clicky" digital envelopes
- Lack of support from the manufacturer
- High price
